PROPHECY: Seeing and Declaring

DAY 11 -

Joel 2:28 "I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy." (ESV)

Will Cleveland opens this daily devotion with a basic definition of prophecy.  He explains it as, "seeing and declaring God's perspective."

He follows this definition with a series of Scriptural references to support this:

"Prophecy starts with knowing God's perspective.  But God says, 'My thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways My ways.' (Isaiah 55:8), Which means if you or I do see something from God's perspective it's only because He has opened our blind eyes (2 Corinthians 4:4) and given us a spirit of revelation to know Him (Ephesians 1:17)." Cleveland

It's my opinion that most people shutter at the notion of prophecy.  Is it because with the title there comes divine partnership? In other words, when you declare the prophetic what you are really saying is that you've heard the voice of God and as a result of that exchange you now have something to say that carries with it the power and authority God Himself.

Do you think we've missed the point of prophecy all together?  If prophecy is really seeing and declaring God's perspective, then where is it that such perspective is found?

THE WORD!

There's no reason why sons and daughter shouldn't be prophesying today!  It requires two things to happen... 1.  You have to have the Word of God, and 2.  You have to be able to open your mouth!    I appreciate the simplicity of this devotion and choose to close this posting with the prophetic words of Will Cleveland, missionary to Somalia.

"Let me prophesy over you, 'While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.'" Romans 5:6 (ESV)
